Pigeon lovers of Dhaka, Bangladesh
Who would pay one lakh taka for a pair of exotic and rare pigeons? Only pigeon lovers would do so.
In Dhaka, there are three dedicated pigeon markets for pigeon lovers in Tongi, Mohammadpur Beribadh and Kaptan Bazar. In these markets you would usually find around two dozen pigeons that sells for prices ranging from Tk 200 to Tk 15000—depending on the breed.
The most common and cheapest breed in Bangladesh is Gola. Other popular breeds include: Chila, Lalchila, Giribaz, Garra, Fency, Pankhi, Racer ect. are the locally named pigeon species of Bangladesh.

লাখ টাকার শখের কবুতর:
শখ মেটানোর জন্যে লাখ টাকা ব্যায় করার ইচ্ছা এই যুগে খুব কম মানুষের আছে। অবিশ্বাস্য মনে হতেই পারে যখন জানবেন পুরান ঢাকার পাখি প্রেমীরা বিরল প্রজাতির কবুতর পেতে লাখ টাকারও বেশী খরচ করতে এক পায়ে খাড়া।
এই কবুতর প্রেমিদের জন্যে ঢাকায় গড়ে উঠেছে কবুতর এবং গৃহপালিত পাখির তিনটি বড় বাজার- টঙ্গি, মুহাম্মদপুর বেড়ি বাধঁ এবং কাপ্তান বাজার। এর মধ্যে আকারের দিক থেকে কাপ্তান বাজারই সবচেয়ে বড়।
মজার ব্যাপর হল কবুতর প্রেমীদের বেশ কিছু সংঘঠনও আছে। এই সংঘঠনগুলো নিয়তিম আয়োজন করে কবুতরের রেইস।
প্রায় ২০০ কবুতর পোষেন কাজী মনিরুজ্জামান। তার মতে কবুতর পোষাটা বেশ মজার কারণ, “আপনার পোষা কবুতর আপনি মিরপুরে ছেড়ে দিলে পাখিটা ঠিক উড়ে উড়ে ফিরে আসবে আপনার বাড়িতে।”
